Tour itinerary

📅 Day 1: Arrival – Huaca de la Luna, Chan Chan & Huanchaco

Your Northern Peru tour begins with a warm welcome and transfer from the airport or bus station in Trujillo, a city known for its rich cultural heritage and proximity to some of the most important archaeological sites in Peru.

Start your journey at Huaca de la Luna, one of the most impressive Moche temples in Peru. This ceremonial complex stands out for its well-preserved polychrome murals, where vivid colors depict deities, warriors and ritual scenes. As you explore the site, your guide will help you understand the symbolism and the role of this temple in Moche society. The small on-site museum complements the visit by exhibiting ceramic pieces and archaeological evidence related to the ceremonies that took place at Huaca de la Luna, offering valuable context to what you see on site.

After a local lunch, continue to Chan Chan (Nik An Palace), the largest adobe city in the Americas and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This vast Chimú capital is a maze of corridors, ceremonial plazas and decorated walls featuring marine motifs, reflecting a civilization deeply connected to the ocean. Exploring Chan Chan gives you a real sense of the scale and organization of one of the most powerful cultures of northern Peru.

End the day in Huanchaco, a traditional coastal village where ancient fishing traditions are still alive. Here, fishermen still ride the iconic caballitos de totora, reed boats used for thousands of years. With its relaxed atmosphere and ocean views, Huanchaco offers the perfect setting to unwind after a day of archaeological exploration.

📅 Day 2: El Brujo – Transfer to Chiclayo

After breakfast, depart north along the coast towards Chiclayo, following the ancient Moche cultural corridor.

On the way, we stop at the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, a place that remained hidden for centuries until one of the most important discoveries in Peruvian archaeology was made.

Here you will encounter the story of the Lady of Cao.

As you enter the museum, the atmosphere becomes more intimate, almost reverential. The preserved body of the Lady of Cao, with visible tattoos still marking her skin, creates a powerful emotional impact.

This discovery changed everything historians thought they knew — it proved that women could hold positions of political and religious power in Moche society.

Outside, you explore the temple structures, where murals and ceremonial spaces reveal a world rich in symbolism and ritual.

The combination of archaeology and storytelling makes this one of the most memorable visits of the tour.

Continue to Chiclayo in the afternoon.

📅Day 3: Huaca Rajada & Royal Tombs Museum - Departure

Discover the Lord of Sipán and the legacy of the Moche civilization

On your final day, explore one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the Americas — a highlight of any Northern Peru tour.

Begin at Huaca Rajada (Sipán), the exact location where the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was found intact. This extraordinary discovery revealed a wealth of gold, silver and ceremonial objects, providing unprecedented insight into the power, wealth and complex rituals of the Moche civilization. Walking through the site, you’ll understand why this finding is often compared to the great discoveries of ancient Egypt.

Continue to the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, widely regarded as one of the most important museums in Peru and the most visited attraction in the Lambayeque region. Designed to resemble a Moche pyramid, the museum houses original artifacts from the tomb, including spectacular gold ornaments, jewelry and a detailed reconstruction of the royal burial. This immersive visit offers a deeper understanding of Moche elite life, funerary practices and social hierarchy.

After the visit, transfer to the airport or bus station, marking the end of your journey through northern Peru — a region rich in history, culture and unforgettable archaeological treasures.
