📅 Day 3: Sipán & Túcume – Treasures of the Lambayeque Culture

Today is dedicated to one of the most important archaeological discoveries in South America.

Start with a visit to Huaca Rajada (Sipán), where the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was found intact. This discovery revealed extraordinary treasures and provided invaluable information about Moche elite life, comparable to the discoveries of ancient Egypt.

Continue to the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, a world-class museum designed to replicate a pyramid structure. Inside, you will see original gold ornaments, jewelry, ceremonial objects and a full reconstruction of the royal tomb.

📅 Day 4: Transfer to Chachapoyas – From Coast to Cloud Forest

Today you will experience one of the most scenic transitions of the entire northern Peru tour.

Travel from the coastal desert into the Andes and cloud forest regions, witnessing dramatic changes in geography, climate and ecosystems. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking landscapes including mountains, valleys and remote villages.

This journey marks the transition from coastal civilizations like the Moche and Chimú to the mysterious Chachapoya culture, known as the “Warriors of the Clouds.”

Arrival in Chachapoyas and overnight.

📅 Day 5: Karajía Sarcophagi & Quiocta Cavern

Begin the day with a journey to one of the most unique funerary sites in Peru: Karajía.

Here, you will see towering anthropomorphic sarcophagi placed high on cliff faces, protecting the remains of elite Chachapoya individuals. These structures are both visually striking and historically fascinating, offering insight into ancient burial traditions.

Continue to Quiocta Cavern, a natural cave filled with impressive stalactites and stalagmites. Explore this underground landscape while learning about its geological formation and cultural significance.

This day combines archaeology, nature and adventure in a truly unique setting.

📅 Day 6: Kuélap Fortress – The Machu Picchu of the North

Today is one of the most spectacular days of your northern Peru grand tour.

Early in the morning, we travel to the village of El Tingo, where we will board the modern Kuelap cable cars (telecabinas), a unique experience that allows you to ascend comfortably into the cloud forest while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views.

The cable car ride offers an unforgettable journey above lush landscapes, mountains and valleys, making the approach to Kuelap part of the adventure itself.

Upon arrival, we continue with a guided visit to the impressive Kuelap Fortress, often referred to as the “Machu Picchu of the North”. This massive stone complex, built by the Chachapoyas culture, features towering defensive walls, circular dwellings and strategic viewpoints overlooking the cloud forest.

Walking through Kuelap, you will feel immersed in a mysterious ancient world surrounded by mist and nature.

After the visit, we return via the same cable car route to El Tingo, completing a seamless and comfortable experience.

📅 Day 7: Leymebamba Museum – Scenic Andes Journey to Cajamarca

After the unforgettable experience at Kuelap, today we dive deeper into the legacy of the Chachapoyas culture.

We begin with a visit to the Leymebamba Museum, one of the most fascinating and lesser-known museums in Peru. This site houses a remarkable collection of over 200 well-preserved Chachapoyas mummies discovered in the Laguna de los Cóndores. The controlled environment of the museum allows visitors to observe these ancient remains along with textiles, ceramics and funerary offerings, providing a rare and intimate look into burial traditions and beliefs.

Unlike larger museums, Leymebamba offers a quiet and immersive atmosphere, making it a truly special cultural experience.

After the visit, we begin our scenic journey towards Cajamarca. This is not just a transfer — it is one of the most visually stunning routes of the entire northern Peru grand tour.

As we travel through the Andes, you will witness dramatic changes in landscape: deep valleys, high mountain passes, traditional villages and agricultural terraces that reflect centuries of Andean life.

This route offers incredible opportunities for photography and a deeper appreciation of Peru’s geographic and cultural diversity.

Arrival in Cajamarca in the evening.

📅 Day 8: Cumbemayo, Otuzco & Baños del Inca

Today we explore the natural and archaeological wonders surrounding Cajamarca.

Our first stop is Cumbemayo, located over 3,500 meters above sea level. This site is home to an extraordinary pre-Inca hydraulic system carved directly into volcanic rock. The canals, still functioning today, demonstrate an advanced understanding of water management dating back more than 3,000 years.

The surrounding landscape is equally impressive, featuring unique rock formations known as the “stone forest”, shaped by erosion into almost surreal figures.

Next, we visit the Ventanillas de Otuzco, a mysterious archaeological site consisting of hundreds of small niches carved into volcanic rock cliffs. These niches were used as ancient burial chambers, and their scale and symmetry continue to intrigue archaeologists and visitors alike.

To end the day, we visit the famous Baños del Inca, natural thermal springs historically used by Inca royalty. Here you can relax in warm mineral-rich waters, a perfect way to unwind after several days of exploration.

This day perfectly combines nature, archaeology and relaxation, adding balance to your northern Peru grand tour.

📅 Day 9: Cajamarca City Tour – Culture, History & Departure

On your final day, we explore the historic city of Cajamarca, a place of great importance in Peruvian history.

The city is best known as the location of the encounter between the Inca emperor Atahualpa and the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, a turning point in the history of South America.

During the city tour, you will visit the Main Square, surrounded by beautiful colonial architecture, as well as important landmarks such as churches, traditional streets and historical sites that reflect the blend of Andean and Spanish influences.

You will also learn about local traditions, culture and daily life in Cajamarca, offering a deeper connection to the region.

After the visit, enjoy a final lunch before your transfer to the airport or bus station.

This marks the end of your unforgettable northern Peru grand tour, a journey filled with history, culture, landscapes and unique experiences.
